Scientific Data Analyst

Location: Atlanta, GA

Scientific Data Analyst (SDA) is needed to provide SAS programming support for the Medical Monitoring Project (MMP) with existing data analyst, data managers and programmers within Clinical Outcomes team (COT). The SDA will be responsible for: 1. Serve as Clinical Outcome Team ( COT ) liaison with DHAP and BCSB IT staff to ensure that all functional requirements necessary to develop a complete and integrated web-based data management system for MMP are fully and appropriately communicated, and are incorporated into the web-based system. 2. Work with COT and Quantitative Sciences and Data Management Branch ( QSDM) data management and analysis staff and COT epidemiologists, to develop CDC and project area-specific data management procedures and abstraction data, and provide complete information on the quality and status of these data to Medical Monitoring Project ( MMP ) project officers and project areas. 3. Communicate with MMP project area staff to ensure that tracking, interview and medical record abstraction data are appropriately collected, documented, and transmitted to CDC in accordance with the above procedures. 4. Work with COT and QSDM data management and analysis staff and COT epidemiologists to develop error checking and cleaning programs to assess data quality and develop reports to assist project areas and project officers to identify, address and correct errors. 5. Assist MMP project officers to understand data management reports for their project areas, and ensure appropriate activities are undertaken to address any data quality deficits. 6. Work with COT and QSDM data management and analysis staff and COT epidemiologists, to prepare analysis SAS data sets for interview, abstraction, tracking and minimal data. 7. Receive, document, and respond to all data management-related questions from MMP project area staff, and serve as liaison between other DHAP branches and BCSB OC and team members to address issues which fall out of the scope of MMP data management activities.

Required Skills:
  • Good understanding of all complex protocols and activities, and completely understand large and intricate data procedures that directly, and indirectly impact data management activities.
  • Proficient SAS programming and procedures (SAS Language statements, Functions, Informats, Data set options, System options, Labeling variables, Renaming variables, Conversion of character values to numeric.
  • Selecting text strings from larger delimited character variables, Operators, Date and time value processing, By-group processing, Combining data sets, Do-loop processing, Array processing, Macro processing, Dropping, keeping and renaming variables output.
Additional Desired Skills/Pluses:
  • Experience with relational data structures and in data reporting and processing.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Effective oral/written communication.
Educational Requirements:
  • BS/BA required, MS/MA required, [Major: 6-8 yrs]
  • MS/MPH Biostats/ Quant. Psychology/Behaviorial Science Years of experience in lieu of degree
