Kentucky Community Surveillance expands to Lexington, KY area with UK HealthCare

(LOUISVILLE, KY) - Emergint® Technologies Inc. is pleased to announce that the Kentucky Hospital Association (KHA) has approved an expansion of the Kentucky Community Surveillance system to include the University of Kentucky HealthCare system for the Lexington, KY area. The Surveillance system which uses Emergint's Data Collection and Transformation System (DCTS) software to collect and report data on numerous infectious diseases is currently being used in other communities throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. DCTS supports the identification of suspicious events in real-time and this expansion allows required data from the UK HealthCare centers, including UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital and UK Good Samaritan Hospital, to be sent to the Lexington-Fayette County Public Health Department. Data will be reported for diseases such as salmonella, shigella and hepatitis as well as non-HIV-related sexually transmitted diseases. In addition to automated reporting, the software provides support for early event detection, outbreak management and response, and direct support for implementing countermeasures to local public health officials. This project will serve residents and visitors of Fayette and surrounding counties within the Commonwealth of Kentucky in preparation for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™.
