Emergint® presents HealthSIS at the ISDS Annual Conference
(Louisville, KY) - Emergint was selected to participate at the International Society for Disease Surveillance's 10th annual conference in Atlanta, GA. The forum is to review and showcase private industry's innovation in public health efforts that may include development of informatics systems, innovative analytical techniques and supportive research that inform and support disease outbreak response and public health communications. The audience for this collaborative conference includes public health researchers and practitioners. The theme for this year's conference was "Building the Future of Public Health Surveillance."
Emergint joined 150 selected participants in discussions and poster presentations. We showcased our electronic disease and syndromic surveillance system, HealthSIS (Health Surveillance Information System) which has supported the Kentucky Commonwealth since May, 2008. HealthSIS provides real-time surveillance and disease reporting between 26 health care provider locations within the Kentucky Hospital Association and 3 local public health departments within Kentucky's Cabinet for Health and Family Services. HealthSIS receives certified meaningful use messaging, uncertified messaging, and custom data streams and identifies reportable disease and syndromic surveillance conditions from content generated by normal hospital operations. Our system streamlines and automates much of the reporting process that informs and makes effective use of healthcare and public health professionals' time and effort.
Tim Ellis, our Senior Systems Engineer at Emergint who attended the conference said, "This conference was a great opportunity for Emergint to showcase what we've accomplished in Kentucky for the last 3 years. While health care providers have some federal resources available to move towards Meaningful Use certification for their records systems, the same can't be said for public health agencies and departments. While the demand for Meaningful Use certification is increasing, funding for local public health care efforts is not. HealthSIS is a proven solution that communicates real-time public health data, and because it has been architected with more lightweight and configurable options, it is highly cost efficient. HealthSIS improves public health response time, accurately, effectively, and efficiently."
